Between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna lies one of Italy's most spectacular green lungs, with ancient forests and peaceful valleys. We are talking about the Casentino Forest National Park, Monte Falterona and Campigna. Here, the scenery seems suspended in time and nature presents itself in its most authentic form.
Focusing on the Emilia-Romagna side, the park extends across the province of Forlì-Cesena and encompasses the municipalities of Bagno di Romagna, Santa Sofia, Premilcuore, Portico, San Benedetto, and Tredozio. The fact that it covers so many municipalities gives an idea of both the size and diversity found within the park.
The park has a wild heart that beats between the forests of Campigna and Lama, a network of beech and silver fir trees that turn red and gold in autumn and green in summer and spring. This park preserves the sources of the Arno, in particular Monte Falterona, but it is not only greenery and nature. These places also preserve a strong spirituality thanks to the hermitages of Camaldoli and La Verna, which are located on the Tuscan side and transform the excursion into an experience of meditation.
The park is ideal for trekking enthusiasts, with over 600 kilometers of trails leading to waterfalls and panoramic ridges. In winter, Campigna is a small oasis for winter sports. The Casentino Forests are not just a landscape, they are something more that tells the story of the authenticity of Romagna's nature.
