Firenze Archeofilm 8 (11–15 March 2026)

Firenze Archeofilm comes back from 11 to 15 March 2026 for its eighth edition: an international festival focused on films about archaeology, art, the environment and ethnography. Held at Cinema La Compagnia, the line‑up includes about 80 titles, more than half world or national premieres, with morning and afternoon screenings and free entry.

Highlights: topics and notable films

The selection emphasizes productions that document excavations, restoration projects, site histories and the work of researchers. Key themes include archaeological investigations in Tuscany, documentaries on monuments and collections, and films addressing threatened cultural heritage.

  • Tuscan research: reports from recent campaigns (for example at an Etruscan‑Roman sanctuary), conservation appeals and studies of historic industrial sites.
  • Researcher profiles: tributes and reconstructions focused on archaeologists and their fieldwork, both in Italy and abroad.
  • International premieres: films from Europe, the Americas and Asia, including many premières.
  • Immersive experiences: VR shorts that recreate medieval pilgrimage routes with careful historical detail.
  • Special focuses: films on UNESCO’s role in safeguarding heritage, virtual reconstructions of historic castles and archaeological finds revealed during urban infrastructure works.

Juries, awards and involvement

Films are judged by multiple panels: a public audience jury, an academic jury from the University of Florence, a student jury composed of university students and an award from the Museum and Florentine Institute of Prehistory. Main awards include the Firenze Archeofilm Prize (public choice), the University of Florence Prize, the Student UniFi Prize for best short film and the Museum and Institute of Florentine Prehistory Prize.
