From Museum to Museum: hiking between museums and villages in Maremma

The Musei di Maremma network, led by the Museo di Storia Naturale della Maremma, organises two free spring hikes that link museums, archaeological sites and villages via pedestrian trails designed for sustainable tourism.

When and where

  • 3 May 2026, 09:00 – Gavorrano → Scarlino route: about 8 km (3.5 hours including stops), with visits to GeoMet, the Colline Metallifere Park centre, Gavorrano historic centre and Scarlino’s Rocca Aldobrandesca.
  • 10 May 2026, 09:00 – Parco Archeologico di Cosa → Orbetello route: about 12 km (approx. 4 hours), crossing Cosa hill, the Feniglia tombolo and the Orbetello lagoon to the Polveriera Guzman Archaeological Museum.

What to expect

  • Guided walks led by environmental guides and museum staff; the 3 May walk includes naturalist Giacomo Radi.
  • Guided visits to museums and archaeological sites along the way.
  • Citizen science activities: recording plant and animal observations using the iNaturalist app.
  • Mapped routes with dedicated cartography and GPS tracks available online.

Hikes are free but limited to 30 participants per date. Reservation is mandatory; full route details, maps and GPS tracks are available on the Musei di Maremma website.
