Herculaneum Park: visitable worksites and continued programming

Federica Colaiacomo took charge of the Parco Archeologico di Ercolano on 3 April 2026 and is implementing an operational approach that balances conservation and public access. The plan focuses on visitable worksites, staged reopenings of domus, and continuity of summer programmes and temporary exhibitions.

Key practical information for visitors and participants:

  • Close-up Cantieri: the 2026 edition continues with sessions on 7, 14 and 21 May (Italian session 10:00-11:00; English session 11:30-12:30). Each session admits up to 15 people and requires booking.
  • Exhibition "From egg to apple": extended until 4 May 2026 at Villa Campolieto and other Park exhibition spaces.
  • Virtual Reality Experience VENI, VIDI, HERCVLANEVM: sessions at the Visitor Center on 27 April, 29 April and 4 May; ten-minute experiences on two workstations for two visitors simultaneously.
  • 25 April free entry: Park open from 08:30 to 19:30 (last admission 18:00); the Boat Pavilion, Antiquarium and the temporary exhibition remain visitable.
  • Villa Sora and Terme-Ginnasio interventions: an ArtBonus fundraising campaign (totaling €60,000) supports consolidation, surface cleaning and maintenance to counter degradation and improve access.

Domus and maintenance: reopening previously closed houses requires securing structures, surface diagnostics, public routing and systems checks. Some areas, such as the Casa del Bicentenario, remain closed until extraordinary maintenance is complete.

Accessibility: the Park offers routes and services for visitors with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities, with trained staff to assist during visits, including virtual reality sessions.

The new direction emphasizes operational continuity and aims to make the conservation works an integral part of the visitor experience, balancing transparency, safety and preservation.
