Dune di Campomarino: the wild coast where nature commands

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 09:19

In a hidden corner of the Taranto Ionian coast, one of the most fascinating coastal landscapes in Puglia manifests: the Dunes of Campomarino di Maruggio. Nature here is not a backdrop, but the true protagonist of the story, between golden sand, junipers, clear sea, and silence.

The dunes extend along a stretch of coastline that has miraculously remained intact for kilometers. The dunes are high, up to 6 meters, and are covered by the Mediterranean sea daffodil (giglio mediterraneo), a true symbol of the air you breathe. Between the dunes and the sea, there is a beach where only wind, sea, and Mediterranean scrub reign.

This stretch of coast is ideal for those who love free beaches, for those who flee from crowded lidos, and for those who desire a swim in a crystalline sea, repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag. Not only that: the dunes are also a small paradise for enthusiasts of botany, birdwatching, or nature photography.

The Dunes of Campomarino represent one of the last well-preserved coastal dunes in the Mediterranean, the last bastion of a fragile and beautiful environment. It is an ideal place for those looking for an authentic piece of Puglia, still little touristy and known. And Maruggio should not be underestimated, a small historical jewel with Templar roots, local wineries, and a lively agricultural tradition.

The Dunes are located along the coastal road between Campomarino and San Pietro in Bevagna. From Taranto, it takes about 50 minutes, following the SP100 and then the SP122. There are parking lots (free and paid) nearby, and access is easily done on foot.
