Metropolitan Sunday in Florence: Free Civic Museum Entry on 1 March 2026

On 1 March 2026 Metropolitan Sunday is back: residents of the Metropolitan City of Florence are granted free admission to the Civic Museums of Florence and Palazzo Medici Riccardi. The initiative includes guided tours, themed routes and activities for families and children.

Main museums and activities

  • Palazzo Vecchio: secret itineraries (10:00, 11:30, 14:30, 16:00; duration 1h15) and general visits to the palace (15:00, 16:30; duration 1h15). "Guided by Giorgio Vasari" tours (10:00, 11:30; duration 1h15).
  • Excavations of the Roman theatre: visits to the ruins (12:00, 12:45; duration 30').
  • Palazzo Medici Riccardi: special opening of Prefecture rooms with artworks on display, including pieces such as "The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine".
  • Museo Novecento: children’s activities ("A fairy tale made of art") and access to current exhibitions, plus the Leopoldine Garden.
  • Santa Maria Novella: focused visit on places and works linked to the "Spanish Nation" and Eleonora de Toledo.
  • MAD - Murate Art District: Common time project within Black History Month Florence.

Family programs

  • Marzocco. The Lion of Florence — for children aged 4-7 (10:15; duration 1h).
  • Life at Court — for children aged 8+ (11:45; duration 1h15).
