Of Land, Of Sea: Francesca Genna’s solo exhibition at the former Convent of Carmine

Opening: Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 6:00 PM. Exhibition dates: April 11 - June 30, 2026.

Of Land, Of Sea showcases the recent work of Sicilian artist Francesca Genna, who teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. Curated by Enrico Caruso and installed within the historic spaces of the former Convent of Carmine, the exhibition brings together more than fifty works including paintings, art prints and artist books, many produced over the last decade and some created specifically for this show.

Themes and approaches

The exhibition reflects on the relationship between humans and the natural world, investigating the memory of matter and contemporary landscape changes. Genna’s practice focuses on traces, impressions and residues left by plants and marine elements; she employs experimental and sustainable techniques to render surfaces and textures marked by time.

Why see it

  • Provides a comprehensive view of an artist rooted in her territory while engaging contemporary concerns.
  • Combines painting, printmaking and artist books to propose renewed readings of art–nature relations.
  • The installation interacts with the convent’s architecture, emphasizing space, material and visual storytelling.
