Damaged power support in Friuli affects connection to the Transalpine pipeline

A support of the 132 kV Tolmezzo-Paluzza power line was damaged on 25 March in the municipality of Tolmezzo (Udine), causing a temporary power outage at the Siot facility in Paluzza. Terna attributed the damage to unknown causes and ruled out a cyber attack, indicating physical damage to the pylon.

• The line was disconnected for approximately two days to allow repair work.
• Repair operations on the support were completed on 29 March; no injuries or significant impacts on local civilian electricity users were reported.
• Some media had suggested a sabotage of facilities; Tal and pipeline management denied claims of targeted attacks, describing the event as a technical malfunction.
• The Transalpine pipeline supplies crude from the port of Trieste to Austria, Bavaria and the Czech Republic, which is why any disruption draws attention from authorities and energy operators.

Terna said it informed law enforcement and activated safety procedures; investigations are ongoing to determine the exact causes of the damage.
