Cremona launches bid process for Italian Capital of Culture 2029

The Municipality of Cremona has officially opened the route towards its bid for Italian Capital of Culture 2029 with a public meeting focused on listening and co-producing the candidature dossier. The event will take place on Thursday 14 May 2026 at Palazzo Affaitati, from 14:30 to 17:00.

The meeting, the first step in a broader participatory process, will include speeches by the mayor Andrea Virgilio and municipal assessors, who outlined a vision that places culture at the centre of participation, collective growth and local development.

Working format and participation

  • The process is coordinated by Itinerari Paralleli Impresa Sociale, which will present objectives and involvement methods.
  • Participants will be divided into working groups hosted in several cultural venues: Centro Fumetto Andrea Pazienza, the Informagiovani spaces, the Pinacoteca's educational workshop and the Natural History Museum.
  • About 40 cultural and associative bodies have already confirmed participation; registrations remain open until 12 May via the Culture Department Secretariat.

Organizers describe the initiative as more than a dossier-writing exercise: it is an opportunity to strengthen the local cultural ecosystem, build partnerships and shape a shared cultural strategy for Cremona.
