Montevarchi Library recognized by UNICEF

Arezzo, May 11, 2026 – The Montevarchi Public Library, located in La Ginestra – Fabbrica della Conoscenza, has been granted the title of Child- and Youth-Friendly Library by UNICEF Italy. The official ceremony took place in the Sala della Filanda with local authorities and UNICEF representatives in attendance.

The recognition follows a process begun in spring 2024 and acknowledges the library's efforts to promote children's rights through services and programs aimed at families, schools and young people.

• Montevarchi is the fourth library in Italy and the second in Tuscany to join the national programme.
• Established activities include a newborn welcome kit within the "Families who read" initiative, linked to the national "Born to Read" programme.
• The UNICEF programme highlights staff training, equitable access, quality reception, listening to children and youth, and cooperation with schools and local organisations.

Officials noted that the recognition underlines the library's role as a cultural and social hub, reinforcing reading promotion and family support within the community.
