Conca di By: the silent secret of the Aosta Valley at the foot of Grand Combin

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 09:46

A few kilometers from Switzerland hides one of the most authentic landscapes in all of the Aosta Valley: the Conca di By. Located in the municipality of Ollomont, the Conca di By is one of those attractions not yet overrun by mass tourism, where the mountain is still a silence that smells of summer.

Like a Roman amphitheater, the Conca di By opens at the foot of the Becca di Luseney (3504 m), overlooking the imposing face of the Swiss Grand Combin. Here, nature is still that of centuries ago, and seems untouched by the toil of time. The landscape is marked only by old paths, alpine streams, and abandoned mountain huts. For those seeking an authentic experience, far from crowds and busy refuges, the Conca di By is a true corner of paradise.

If you want to enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region, trekking enthusiasts can climb up to the Rifugio Champillon (2375 m). From there, trails branch off towards Col Champillon or the Becca di Luseney itself (for experts only). Those who enjoy walking without haste can follow the tour of the By alpine pastures, a loop itinerary that crosses woods and ancient oaks. In autumn, the foliage offers a palette of colors, while in winter it is a destination for experienced mountaineers.

If you want to take a break from noise, from crowds, if you want to rediscover the authentic mountain as it is, the Conca di By is the ideal place. It is the perfect place for those who want to walk undisturbed without meeting a soul, even during high season.

From Aosta, you can reach the village of Ollomont by car in about 40 minutes. From there, you can park in the Glacier locality and continue on foot along trail n.4, which is marked and well-maintained. In about two hours, you enter the heart of the basin, where time seems to have stood still.
