The project to research and rehabilitate the Delizia di Belfiore area has entered its final phase, officially announced on 13 April 2026. The initiative is led by the regional Superintendency together with the local archaeological group.
The site, roughly one and a half hectares and currently unused, lies between Via Santa Maria degli Angeli, Via Giacomo Leopardi and Via Orlando Furioso. It represents an important fragment of Ferrara's estense heritage that had not previously undergone systematic excavation.
Field campaigns took place across 2022–2024 and now move into the concluding phase under Superintendency oversight, with professional archaeologists supporting the operations. Trained students and volunteer members of the archaeological group have worked alongside specialists, making the site an active learning environment.
Municipal funding has supported the initiative from the outset, reflecting the local administration's interest in investing in cultural identity, education and urban regeneration.
