In 2026 the Compendio Garibaldino on Caprera marks fifty years since its establishment under the Ministry of Culture. The anniversary program combines exhibitions, talks and cultural initiatives that explore art, history and civic memory from March through September.
28 March – 23 May: Exhibition "The Same Sea. From Giuseppe Garibaldi to Carlo Battaglia." Large canvases by Carlo Battaglia engage with the island’s seascape and the symbolic role of the sea.
25 April – 3 May: Display of the partisan flag of the Brigata Garibaldi “Spartaco II,” a wartime relic that connects Garibaldi’s legacy to 20th-century resistance.
23 May (Night of Museums): Late opening until 23:00 with a talk by Virman Cusenza on Garibaldi’s agricultural projects and his Caprera diaries.
2 June: Opening of the exhibition "For a Europe of Peoples. The Army of the Vosges and the last battle for freedom," curated with Annita Garibaldi Jallet; presentation of the book "Lexicon for the Republic. From the Risorgimento to European integration" edited by Maurizio Ridolfi.
20 June: Presentation of "Guglielmo Marconi 1901 – Becco di Vela. Island of Caprera," focused on early radio experiments conducted on the island.
21 June (Music Day): Themed tours highlighting musical instruments preserved in the Casa Bianca and Garibaldi’s interest in music.
4 July – 12 September: Photo exhibition "A 170-Year Story" documenting the evolution of Garibaldi’s residence, opened on the General’s birthday.
20 September: Talk with Massimiliano Fois on Garibaldi and Freemasonry, shedding light on lesser-known aspects of his civic commitments.
26–27 September (European Heritage Days): Display of Garibaldian relics from Edoardo Barberini and a closing conference titled "Relive, Resist, Reimagine" about restoration and enhancement projects.
The program blends contemporary art with archival materials: visitors will encounter pictorial works alongside historic objects and personal testimonies tied to Garibaldi. The exhibitions offer a multifaceted portrait of the General—as national figure, innovator and a proponent of European ideals.
Program period: March – September 2026, with events scheduled throughout the season.
Tickets and opening times: check the official website of the Musei Garibaldini or local tourist information for current schedules, fares and boat connections to Caprera.
