Bergamo launches Green Food Week: initiatives for sustainable food and waste reduction

The Municipality of Bergamo is taking part in Green Food Week, scheduled from April 13 to 17, with a range of initiatives aimed at schools, canteens and the management of food surpluses.

Key measures include:

• 100% plant-based menu featuring legumes served in canteens supplied by SerCar, intended to promote healthy and sustainable eating.
• Educational kit provided to schools by Food Insider: workshops and readings tailored to early childhood and primary levels to introduce children to sustainable food practices.
• Redistribution of surpluses to local charities and soup kitchens, including donations to the Patronato San Vincenzo canteen and a recovery service in Monterosso.
• Inclusion and anti-poverty projects such as the Fabbrica dei sogni and the Forno al fresco initiative in collaboration with the local prison.

The administration emphasizes that these actions are part of the city's Food Policy and its participation in the European project Turn the tables, aiming to cut waste, enhance local resources and raise awareness among younger generations about sustainable diets.
