Basilicata Alpaca: Between Animals, Nature, and Sustainable Fashion in Acerenza

Autore: Redazione 29/08/2025 15:24

Not a traditional amusement park, but an experience that combines a love for animals, craftsmanship, and nature — this is Basilicata Alpaca, the first and only alpaca farm in Southern Italy, located in Acerenza.

The alpacas, gentle and curious creatures, immediately win the hearts of both children and adults with their affectionate and playful nature. Guided tours allow visitors to get up close with them and learn about their precious wool — warm, hypoallergenic, and incredibly soft.

The visit

During the tour, guests can even create a small handmade wool item as a keepsake, turning the visit into both an educational and creative experience.

The project’s philosophy is clear: to promote eco-sustainable fashion based on artisanal craftsmanship and free from chemical treatments. The wool is sheared once a year without stressing the animals, then sent to artisanal workshops in Northern Italy, where it is transformed into 100% alpaca yarns and garments, all handmade.

What else the park offers

In addition to animal-based activities, Basilicata Alpaca offers e-bike excursions to explore the village of Acerenza, its lake, and the majestic medieval cathedral. There’s also a picnic area with a lake view, complete with barbecues and children’s play spaces — the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Prices

Guided tours last about 1 hour and 20 minutes, offering a close-up experience with the alpacas — full of cuddles, photos, and discovery:

• Full ticket: €14

• Reduced (children aged 4–8): €8

• Children under 4: free admission

E-bike excursions: €18 per person

Picnic area access: €3

Basilicata Alpaca is an original and refreshing experience — not just entertainment, but a true cultural and sensory journey through nature, animals, and artisanal tradition. It’s a wonderful example of how even a small local project can become a symbol of innovation and sustainability.
