Balconi di Pian Grande: the flowering spectacle of the Sibilline Mountains

Autore: Redazione 25/08/2025 20:55

In the heart of the Sibilline Mountains National Park lies a breathtaking destination on the border between the Marche and Umbria regions. We're talking about the Balconi di Pian Grande (Balconies of Pian Grande), surrounded by hills and dominated by Monte Vettore, which is famous for its summer bloom. Here are the reasons why you can't miss it.

First off, between June and July, there is a natural spectacle where daisies, cornflowers, poppies, and lentils paint the plain in shades of red, blue, and yellow. This phenomenon is known as the Castelluccio Fioritura (Flowering of Castelluccio) and attracts photographers, nature lovers, and influencers alike, offering unforgettable views.

Secondly, there are the panoramas. From the natural balconies surrounding the plain, you can admire spectacular views from scenic spots you never imagined could exist. The beauty will overwhelm you; you'll find yourself in a hidden world you didn't even know was there. Nature and biodiversity will embrace you in a welcoming symposium, with biodiversity reigning supreme.

Indeed, the flora and fauna are typical of the Sibilline Mountains, and the lentils of Castelluccio are famous—small and flavorful, they add a touch of tradition that echoes the landscape. The trails are for everyone and are divided by difficulty, starting from Castelluccio di Norcia or other nearby locations. They are suitable for expert trekkers, but there are also those suitable for families; the more challenging ones head toward Monte Vettore.

Your visit can be completed with a stop at Castelluccio di Norcia, an enchanting village that overlooks the plain where you can taste typical local Marche dishes and immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere.
