Arcomagno: the hidden pearl of the Riviera dei Cedri

Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 08:14

A path carved into the rock — and then, paradise. In an enchanting corner of Calabria, the spectacle unfolds between the cliffs of San Nicola Arcella, on the famous Riviera dei Cedri in the province of Cosenza: this is the Arcomagno Beach.

The beach lies in a small, secluded bay and can be reached only by footpath or by boat, hidden behind a natural arch of limestone rock. This arch serves as a gateway to one of the most beautiful and unspoiled seas in Italy.

It is also known as the Grotta dell’Arcomagno, due to the presence of a cave dedicated to the Goddess Venus. In ancient times, travelers would come here to purify themselves before setting out on their journeys.

Visiting this place at sunrise or sunset is a rejuvenating experience, as the play of light creates breathtaking reflections of red, blue, and green across the water. Far from mass tourism, it is the perfect spot to reconnect with the most authentic essence of the sea.

From here, you can easily visit Praia a Mare and Dino Island, both famous for their marine caves.

By car, from the north, take the A2 motorway and exit at Lagonegro, then continue along the SS18 Tirrena Inferiore to San Nicola Arcella. Don’t worry about parking — spaces are available near the town’s panoramic viewpoint. From there, a scenic walking path (20–30 minutes) leads down to the beach.

Boat excursions are also available in summer, departing from Praia a Mare or Scalea.
