Anna Perach — Dis/Enchanted Interiors

When: 14 May - 12 July 2026 (opening on 14 May at 18:00)

Where: MAD Murate Art District and the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology, Florence.

MAD Murate Art District presents Dis/Enchanted Interiors, the artist Anna Perach’s first institutional solo exhibition in Italy, curated by Veronica Caciolli and Valentina Gensini. Produced in collaboration with Fondazione MUS.E and the University of Florence, the project connects contemporary art, anthropology and performance practices.

The exhibition is funded within the PN Metro Plus and Città Medie Sud 2021-2027 programme and explores the relationship between heritage and contemporary production, with emphasis on non-Eurocentric perspectives and gender-related issues.

What to see

Born in Zaporizhzhia (1985) and based in London, Perach reworks folklore, mythology and popular narratives through a gender-aware lens. She employs tufting to produce wearable sculptures and immersive environments that hover between object and "skin", often activated by live performance.

  • Mother of Monsters — revisits themes of bodily control via the corset as a device that both protects and constrains, interrogating generational and violent tensions.
  • Alkonost — a reinterpretation of the Slavic bird-woman myth, exploring transformation from powerless victim to a dangerously alluring figure.
  • Uncanny Valley — a procession of tufted embroidered heads that carry cultural memory while producing a sense of eerie familiarity.

The presentation includes two new commissions and a site-specific work for the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology, together with a selection of pieces made between 2019 and the present.

Why attend

Dis/Enchanted Interiors prompts reflection on identity, migration, cultural reception and exoticization, offering a platform for critical engagement with memory and representation. The exhibition reinforces MAD’s role as a research and production hub with an international outlook.

Curators: Veronica Caciolli and Valentina Gensini.
