Ancona and the Marche in Napoleonic Italy: event series at the Mole Vanvitelliana

From May to September the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona presents a series of events dedicated to the city's and region's Napoleonic heritage. Organized by the municipality in collaboration with academic institutions, associations and schools, the program features talks, exhibitions, historical reenactments and educational projects.

• 16 May 2026, 9:30 – "Napoleon's Jewels": Sala Polveri. Historical introduction by university scholars, contributions from costume historians and petrology experts applied to cultural heritage, exhibition of jewellery and projects by Liceo Artistico E. Mannucci and garments by Istituto Vanvitelli-Stracca-Angelini; participation of reenactors from the Accademia di Oplologia e Militaria.
• 22 May 2026, 17:30 – Conference "Napoleonic Reminiscences: the Palazzo dell'Appannaggio and other residences": academic talks on state architecture and residences in the Napoleonic period.
• 6 September 2026, 19:00 – "Napoleon's Mad Marshals": session within the Festival of History, featuring a discussion between Prof. Luigi Mascilli Migliorini and historian Sergio Sparapani.

Organisers and partners: Municipality of Ancona (Departments of Tourism, Culture and Educational Policies), Festival of History, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Accademia di Oplologia e Militaria, Istituto Storia Marche, local schools and cultural organisations.

The series continues the city’s engagement with the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities and aims to highlight architectural traces, urban memories and educational perspectives of the Napoleonic era through public events and student-led activities.
