Autore: Redazione 01/08/2025 11:58

A long-time jewel of Puglia and one of Italy’s most visited destinations, Alberobello stands proudly as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its extraordinary architecture and timeless charm. Visiting it is an unmissable experience for anyone wishing to admire one of Italy’s most iconic wonders — and to stay in its world-famous trulli, the conical stone houses that have made it legendary.

Are you ready to discover it with us?

Alberobello: The City of Trulli

With a population of around 10,000 inhabitants, Alberobello’s origins trace back to a 1481 investiture charter, where it was known as Silva Alborelli. The settlement began to flourish in the 16th century, when Andrea Matteo III Acquaviva d’Aragona, Count of Conversano, sent about forty families of farmers to cultivate the land. Later, in 1635, Giangirolamo II began the urban development that gave rise to the characteristic trulli, transforming the former fief into what is now the cultural capital of the Murgia’s trulli.

Beyond its distinctive dwellings, Alberobello also preserves several remarkable landmarks:

  • The Cemetery, designed by Antonio Curri, built in Neo-Egyptian style, featuring a pronaos with twelve columns, two truncated-pyramid towers, and decorations with animals and solar symbols.
  • The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, patrons of the town, whose cult was introduced in 1636. The church, with its Latin-cross plan and elegant apse, holds the relics of the saints.
  • The Trullo Sovrano – Corte di Papa Cataldo, one of the tallest trulli in Alberobello at fourteen meters high, once home to the Confraternity of the Holy Sacrament and today transformed into a fascinating house-museum.

Sleeping in the Trulli

One of the most enchanting ways to experience Alberobello is by staying in an authentic trullo. These unique structures have been carefully restored into charming accommodations combining history, tradition, and comfort. Here are some of the best options:
