Air India has inaugurated a non‑stop service between Delhi and Rome Fiumicino, marking the carrier's return to the Italian capital after nearly six years. The new route aims to meet rising travel demand between India and Europe and to improve air connections between Italy and Asia.
The inauguration at Fiumicino included representatives from the Indian Embassy in Italy and Aeroporti di Roma, with traditional ceremonial moments such as a lamp lighting and cake cutting. Nipun Aggarwal, Air India Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted growing tourist and business travel as well as deepening cultural ties. Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Aeroporti di Roma, noted Fiumicino's increasingly strategic role in the Mediterranean.
For culture and tourism, the route is important: it eases access for visitors attending exhibitions, festivals, fashion and design events, supports mobility for students and professionals, and strengthens links with the Indian community in Italy.
With Rome added, Air India now serves eight continental European destinations: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Zurich.
Location: Aeroporto di Roma - Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci (FCO), Via Pierpaolo Racchetti, 1, 00054 Fiumicino RM, Italia
