A Life of Making: Yolanda Cuomo exhibition in Rome
From 22 May to 19 June 2026 Officine Fotografiche hosts A Life of Making, the first exhibition in Italy devoted to Yolanda Cuomo, an internationally renowned art director, curator and book designer. The show highlights her contribution to the photobook as a narrative and editorial form that shaped contemporary image-making.
- When: 22/05/2026 – 19/06/2026
- Where: Officine Fotografiche, Via Giuseppe Libetta 1, Rome
- Admission: free (check the venue website for updates)
- Website: officinefotografiche.org
Curated by Annalisa D'Angelo, the exhibition stages a narrative of practices: black-and-white photographs, editorial projects, original mock-ups and posters. Rather than a strict retrospective, the show invites visitors into the visual workshop of Cuomo, emphasizing process and relationships.
The display retraces more than forty years of practice — from Cuomo's formative years in New York amidst conceptual art and feminism, to collaborations with major magazines and agencies such as Aperture and Magnum Photos. Exhibits include historic layouts, collage studies and magazine spreads that reveal her meticulous editorial approach.
The exhibition foregrounds two main themes: editorial work as a space of listening and collaboration, and the value of craftsmanship in a digital era. Highlights include original maquettes and posters that document long-term collaborations with leading photographers and authors.
Practical note: this exhibition is particularly relevant for visual practitioners, photography enthusiasts and those interested in the craft of image publishing. Check the Officine website for opening hours and related events such as guided visits or curator talks.
