Capodimonte hosts ELT meeting: Naples at the heart of Italian projects

From 12 to 15 May 2026 the Ernesto Capocci National Auditorium at the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory in Naples will host researchers and technologists from across Italy and the European Southern Observatory (ESO) to review Italian-led instrumentation for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).

The conference, organised by INAF–Capodimonte and coordinated by Dr Marcella Marconi, aims to provide an update on project status, promote scientific and technical discussion, and foster collaborations with particular attention to young researchers.

• ELT: a 39-metre-class telescope under construction at Cerro Armazones (Atacama), coordinated by engineer Roberto Tamai;
• MORFEO and ANDES: the main Italian instrument projects, led by Paolo Ciliegi and Alessandro Marconi;
• Sessions on scientific goals, synergies with other facilities and technological prospects.

The meeting highlights the role of the Campania scientific community in large-scale astronomy and offers direct access for young scientists to project leaders.
