Zangarona is a small hamlet of Lamezia Terme where an Arbëreshë community keeps its language and traditions alive. With just over 350 inhabitants, the village offers a concentrated itinerary of history, linguistic heritage and cultural markers dating back to Albanian settlements from the 16th century.
Since 2007, local citizens have run the "Xingarona larg dhe asër" Association to protect and promote linguistic and cultural heritage. Walking the alleys and talking with residents—often willing to share stories and lead short tours—is the best way to understand Zangarona’s cultural value.
Zangarona is a compact and valuable piece of Calabria’s cultural landscape: for lovers of authentic hamlets it provides archaeological interest, contemporary art and a community committed to safeguarding its roots.
