The Maremma is a geographical region between Tuscany and Lazio, a vast area facing both the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ligurian Sea, and is divided into three main zones:

Rich in natural wonders, the Maremma offers a wide variety of landscapes to explore — from mountain trails to seaside paths, and from trekking routes to historic villages. Among its most iconic natural attractions is the Maremma Park, which features nine different itineraries stretching from San Rabano to Poggio Raso, allowing visitors to admire the region’s rich flora and fauna. Also worth mentioning are its beautiful beaches, such as Alberese Beach and Capalbio Beach.

An essential stop is undoubtedly the capital of the region: Grosseto. The city gained administrative autonomy only in 1766, and took on its modern appearance in the 20th century following the reclamation of surrounding marshlands. Today, Grosseto offers visitors a mix of sea and culture.
Among its seaside destinations are Marina di Grosseto, the charming fishing village of Castiglione della Pescaia, and the stunning Monte Argentario promontory. Offshore lie the Formiche di Grosseto, three small islands rising from waters about 100 meters deep — a true paradise for diving enthusiasts.

Culturally, Grosseto boasts numerous monuments worth visiting, including:

In addition to its countless attractions, Grosseto — like the entire Maremma region — offers a wealth of typical food and wine products, such as wines, olive oil, cheeses, cured meats, and meats, all reflecting the authentic flavors of Tuscany.
