Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:39

Just a few kilometers from Campobasso, overlooking the Biferno Valley, lies the village of Oratino.

Linked to its artisan tradition of stone and woodwork, the village – with a clear Baroque background – is listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

What to see in Oratino

Among the most important attractions of Oratino are its historic center, which leads to Palazzo Giordano, an 18th-century noble residence, and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, a Baroque church decorated with frescoes from the Neapolitan school of the 18th century.

You can also visit the panoramic viewpoint, offering a breathtaking view of the Molise hills, and Porta San Giovanni, the perfectly preserved gateway to the village.

Just a few minutes from the historic center, you can explore the remains of Oratino’s medieval castle, a fortress now in ruins, surrounded by nature.

Craftsmanship and tradition

The ancient tradition of its stonemasons has made the village of Oratino famous worldwide.

Local craftsmanship is still very much alive and is expressed through woodwork and wrought iron creations.

Events, culture and gastronomy

Among the most important festivals held in Oratino is the Faglia di Oratino, one of the most significant events in Molise, during which a torch over 13 meters high is lit in the village center to celebrate Christmas Eve.

Throughout the year, food festivals and patronal feasts bring the village to life, where you can also discover its culinary art by tasting typical dishes such as Molise cavatelli, artisanal cheeses, cured meats, and traditional sweets like mostaccioli.

What to see around Oratino

From Oratino, it is easy to reach Campobasso, the regional capital, Guardialfiera with its lake, and the archaeological site of Sepino-Altilia.

Oratino is the perfect destination for those who want to discover Molise and its hidden treasures, enriching their cultural experience while savoring the region’s traditional products.
