Visiting Mezzano: what to see in the Alpine village among the Dolomites

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:49

One of the most beautiful villages in Trentino is undoubtedly Mezzano, lying at the foot of the majestic Pale di San Martino.

This village is enriched by its famous “Cataste & Canzei”, making it the ideal stop for those in search of beauty, tranquility, and lightheartedness.

What to see in Mezzano

The wooden and stone houses, the ancient fountains, and the flower-decked balconies allow visitors to immerse themselves in a journey where time seems to have stood still.

The symbol of the village is the Cataste & Canzei trail: a collection of over 30 artistic installations created with stacks of firewood.

It is fascinating how the artists have given the wood something magical, bringing to life faces, geometries, and symbols carved into the logs.

Among the attractions is the Church of San Giorgio with its bell tower in clear Alpine style.

Inside, visitors can admire frescoes and wooden furnishings that reflect the mountain faith of the community.

Another distinctive element of the village is the presence of historic gardens, small plots of land next to the houses still used today to grow herbs—often used for liqueurs—and flowers.

What to see around Mezzano

The location of this village makes it easy to explore the entire Primiero area and the eastern Dolomites. Just a short walk away is Fiera di Primiero, one of the most important towns in Trentino-Alto Adige.

A few kilometers further lies San Martino di Castrozza, a beloved Alpine resort for skiing, trekking, and mountaineering.

Not to be missed is a trip to Lake Calaita, reachable in just a few minutes by car, where you can admire the mirror of water reflecting the Pale di San Martino.

Even in winter, the village is an excellent base for reaching the ski slopes and experiencing the magical atmosphere of the snow-covered mountains, while in autumn the foliage transforms the valley into a painting of warm, intense colors.
