Bovino, the Apulian village with Norman character

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:37

Bovino, located in the Subappennino Dauno, is recognized among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.

Its main feature is undoubtedly a mix of the elegance of stone and the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Walking among the noble palaces takes visitors on a journey back in time, enhanced by stone arches and wonderful panoramic views.

What to see in Bovino

Bovino is made up of more than 800 historic buildings.

Among the most characteristic and imposing is the Ducal Castle, dating back to the Norman period. This castle is the most popular destination for tourists arriving in Bovino.

Just a few steps from the castle stands the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a Romanesque-style work with Gothic elements. The cathedral is enriched with numerous works of art and precious relics: in fact, it houses the remains of Saint Mark the Pope, patron saint of the town.

In addition, along the narrow streets you can visit Baroque churches, historic fountains, and small squares where you can enjoy an aperitif in complete tranquility.

Another highlight is the Diocesan Museum, which over the years has preserved numerous religious and artistic treasures of inestimable value.

Authentic experiences between nature and tradition

Among the experiences to be enjoyed in Bovino are trekking routes, cycling tours, and walks through the woods, even immersing yourself in icy streams.

From a food and wine perspective, Bovino is a journey into delicacies: from artisanal cured meats to traditional dishes such as mugnaia (homemade pasta) or cicatielli with chickpeas, which reflect the peasant traditions of the area.

What to see around Bovino

Among the most popular destinations easily reachable from Bovino are:

  • Sant’Agata di Puglia, the panoramic village known as the “Loggia of Apulia,” thanks to its breathtaking views.
  • Troia, famous for its Romanesque cathedral and sculpted portals.
  • The Dauni Mountains Natural Park, ideal for those who wish to immerse themselves in woods, springs, and nature trails.
