Arcevia – The Marche Village of Art, Nature, and Castles

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:46

The village of Arcevia, in the Marche region, is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is known as “the city of nine castles.”

Located between the Misa Valley and the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, Arcevia boasts a historic center rich in art and breathtaking views.

Thanks to its unique layout, the village is also surrounded by nature trails and hiking paths.

What to See in Arcevia

Strolling through Arcevia might feel like a small adventure due to its many cobbled streets. Nevertheless, the beauty of its noble palaces and the panoramic views over vineyard-covered hills enchant every visitor.

Among the must-see attractions are the Palazzo dei Priori, home to the Town Hall, and the Church of San Medardo, a Renaissance-era structure adorned with artworks by renowned Marche artists.

You can also visit the Teatro Misa, a true 19th-century gem that still retains its original structure.

Don’t miss the small artisan workshops and local eateries, where you can taste Verdicchio, a regional wine excellence, perfectly paired with the traditional crescia sfogliata.

The Nine Castles of Arcevia

A unique feature of this village is its layout: nine medieval castles scattered around the main center.

Each castle is worth a visit, but the most picturesque include Castiglioni, Caudino, and Loretello.

They all tell stories of battles, rivalries, and a strong sense of community typical of rural life.

Events, Culture, and Traditions

Throughout the year, Arcevia hosts numerous events that celebrate its history and promote local culture.

Among the most notable are:

  • Arcevia Jazz Feast, a music festival featuring international artists
  • Festa dell’Uva, a grape festival held in September with parades, tastings, and rural traditions
  • Artisan Craft Exhibition, showcasing traditional trades and local craftsmanship

What to See Around Arcevia

Among the nearby attractions—making Arcevia a great place to stay—are the spectacular Frasassi Caves, Serra de’ Conti, and Pergola, famous for its Visciolato wine.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi Natural Park offers trails perfect for hiking or cycling.
