Visiting Aggius: What to See in the Stone-Built Sardinian Village

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:30

In the heart of Gallura, the village of Aggius is one of the most authentic in northern Sardinia, and for this reason, it has been included among the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.

Far from mass tourism, this village preserves memory, culture, and identity.

What to See in Aggius

One of the village’s iconic landmarks is its historic center, built entirely from local granite.

Strolling through the alleys of Aggius, you’ll reach the Oliva Carta Cannas Ethnographic Museum, which houses tools, costumes, textiles, and everyday objects from Gallurese life.

Another site that reflects local history is the MEOC – Museum of Banditry, which retraces episodes of regional chronicles.

You can also rediscover the textile tradition by visiting artisan workshops where Sardinian rugs are still crafted.

Events, Culture, and Traditions

Among the most cherished celebrations is the Feast of Santa Vittoria, the village’s patron saint, which takes place in September and involves the entire community with songs and dances in traditional costume.

During the summer, festivals are held to honor local products such as cheese, honey, pane carasau, and wine, enriched by traditional music concerts and art exhibitions.

What to See Around Aggius

Thanks to its location, Aggius is just a short distance from the Valle della Luna, a granite landscape with a lunar-like appearance, and from nuragic temples—archaeological remains of the Nuragic civilization.

Just a few kilometers away are other charming villages like Tempio Pausania and Luras.

These distinctive features make Aggius the perfect destination for those seeking culture and nature, far from mass tourism hubs.
