Vinci: The village of Leonardo among genius, hills, and Tuscan history

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 19:16

Made famous as the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, the village of Vinci is a jewel of the Tuscan countryside and has earned recognition as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.

What to See in Vinci

The medieval village is dominated by the Castle of the Counts Guidi, today transformed into the Museo Leonardiano, which houses reproductions and models of Leonardo’s inventions.

Next to the castle stands the Church of Santa Croce, where Leonardo was baptized.

Just a few kilometers away, in the hamlet of Anchiano, visitors can explore Leonardo’s birthplace, surrounded by greenery and enriched with a multimedia project narrating the life and works of the Tuscan genius.

Events, Culture, and Traditions

Among the most important festivals in Vinci is the Festa dell’Unicorno, a large fantasy event that brings the village to life with costumed parades.

In April, the Leonardo Birthday celebrates the anniversary of Leonardo’s birth with a week of events.

Throughout the year, local food festivals allow visitors to rediscover traditional flavors, from crostini with chicken liver to ribollita, all paired with Chianti wines produced in the area.

What to See Around Vinci

Vinci is a strategic point for exploring the heart of Tuscany.

Within a few kilometers you can reach Empoli and Cerreto Guidi, the latter known for its UNESCO-listed Medici Villa.

For nature lovers, the trails of Montalbano offer ideal routes for trekking and mountain biking.

The village of Vinci masterfully combines the legacy of Leonardo’s genius with the scenic beauty of Tuscany, offering a journey through culture, nature, and culinary delights.
