With the arrival of spring, Vimercate takes part in the FAI Spring Days by offering access to two important historical sites. The initiative lets visitors explore local heritage through architecture, frescoes and historic landscape design.
Overlooking Piazza Unità d'Italia, Palazzo Trotti is an aristocratic residence built over a 15th-century structure and remodelled in the 18th century. Interior rooms display rococo decorations with mythological and amorous themes in halls named after figures such as Cleopatra, Hercules and Bacchus. Since the 19th century the building has hosted municipal offices while preserving its historical and artistic features.
The villa, rebuilt in the late 18th century in a neoclassical style, is accompanied by a garden that evolved from a formal Italian layout to a 19th-century English romantic park. The grounds include mature trees, clearings, winding paths and ornamental features like an artificial grotto and a Coffee House. Recently restored, the garden has been returned to public use and contains notable botanical specimens.
The FAI Spring Days are organised with the support of local volunteers and offer guided routes designed to highlight the area's historic and natural heritage. Check for any last-minute changes to times or access before you go.
