animism sings anarchy is a new commission for the Lithuanian Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition — Venice Biennale. Eglė Budvytė presents a multichannel film installation combining 16mm footage transferred to 4K with vocal performance and choreographed sequences inspired by animist and Neolithic ritual practices.
Filmed partly in the southeast of Italy, the project transforms archaeological materials and anthropological research into performative scenes: choreography that evokes trance, ecstasy and collective bonds. Anthropomorphic facsimiles—produced as modest 3D prints and copies—serve as devotional loci for intimate, trembling choreographies.
Visitor notes: the installation rewards a slow, attentive viewing; allow around an hour to experience the projections and the spatial relationships of the installation fully.
Further information: practical details and programme updates are available from the exhibition venue and organisers.
