Venere Contadina: rediscovering Rome’s rural soul

When: Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19, 2026
Where: Giardino del Casale dei Cedrati, Villa Pamphilj, Rome.

"Venere Contadina" is a two-day event dedicated to Rome’s agricultural vocation, combining historical insights, sustainable cultivation techniques and activities aimed at families and professionals.

  • Saturday 18, 4:00 PM – talk "The greenhouses of the Giardino dei Cedrati: from 19th-century pineapple houses to hydroponic vegetable cultivation" followed by guided greenhouse visits; speakers include representatives from Casale dei Cedrati, H4O and Lazio Slow Food.
  • Sunday 19, 12:00 PM – "The agricultural heart of Rome", a programme of talks on territory, landscape and urban biodiversity featuring agronomists, landscape architects and local cooperative members.
  • Sunday 19, 2:00–4:30 PM – tastings of produce grown on site; km‑0 menus and a guided olive oil tasting by the Consorzio Olio di Roma IGP.

The Giardino dei Cedrati, historically redesigned in the 18th century, hosts a collection of citrus varieties, a hydroponic vegetable garden and a "citrus library". The event highlights the connection between agricultural activities, hospitality and sustainable food offerings in the city center.

Organisers hope Venere Contadina will become a recurring initiative to promote urban farming practices and strengthen the link between local production and consumption in Rome.
