Cultural heritage recovery: Lombardy Region allocates €18 million for municipalities

The Lombardy Region has approved a call for the "Integrated Cultural Projects 2026-2029", allocating a total of €18 million to municipalities and public bodies for restoration, recovery and repurposing of public cultural assets.

The initiative aims not only at structural rehabilitation but at turning historic buildings into active spaces for cultural services and local development. Applications can be submitted starting 4 May 2026 on the regional "Bandi e Servizi" platform.

  • Total funding: €18 million from the Region.
  • Grant size: between €500,000 and €1,000,000, covering up to 50% of project costs.
  • Eligible applicants: public entities, including partnerships with private organizations.
  • Purpose: combine building recovery with sustainable cultural activity plans.
  • Fondazione Cariplo partnership: additional €3.5 million for technical support and project accompaniment.

Francesca Caruso, regional councillor for Culture, emphasized that "culture is a lever for territorial development" and that the call favors projects capable of creating renewed cultural life and community services. Giovanni Azzone, president of Fondazione Cariplo, described the collaboration as a model to transform public heritage into an active resource through public-private cooperation.

For details and to submit an application, consult the regional "Bandi e Servizi" portal from the opening date indicated above.
