Traditional crafts and innovation: Matera hosts the European M.A.R.K.A.T.O. project

The M.A.R.K.A.T.O. project, funded by the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy 2021–2027 programme, was presented at HubOut in Matera. The initiative aims to preserve and enhance traditional crafts and intangible cultural heritage while boosting economic sustainability and innovation in the craft sector.

Using digital tools, training pathways and cultural and tourism promotion activities, M.A.R.K.A.T.O. intends to generate new opportunities for artisans, businesses and local communities, supporting skills transmission and the contemporary relaunch of traditions within tourism offerings.

• Italy: Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019, Distretto Produttivo Puglia Creativa, Municipality of Bisceglie

The press event highlighted Matera and the Basilicata region’s strategic role in the cross-border partnership, emphasizing the potential to combine cultural identity and innovation to strengthen craft supply chains and tourism appeal.
