The University of Verona has launched a distributed museum initiative that brings contemporary art into corridors and common areas, making it part of everyday university life. The collection, established through a major donation, is displayed across multiple sites from the Provianda di Santa Marta to the Ca' Vignal 3 campus, aiming to connect different locations through a shared cultural thread.
Scientific coordinator Monica Molteni explains that the project grew from the need to accommodate two substantial groups of works received at different times and the desire to involve all departments. Rather than a single-site gallery, the initiative is a distributed collection intended to belong to the entire university and to be open to the city.
An international conference on university museums and the role of museums as meeting points between local roots and academic cooperation is planned for May. Participants will include representatives from foreign universities and major museum institutions, alongside national and international museum sector organizations.
The distributed museum offers a chance to experience contemporary art in unconventional settings, follow recent artistic developments and take part in educational initiatives. It is an asset for the university community and for visitors interested in contemporary art within the region.
