UNESCO, Shared Heritage: training and free guided visits for Lombardy teachers

The "UNESCO, Shared Heritage" initiative offers activities for primary and secondary school teachers in Lombardy: an introductory conference in Milan and complementary free guided visits to the region's UNESCO sites.

Introductory conference

The free conference will take place at Palazzo Lombardia on 18 May 2026. It presents the educational goals and the practical resources available to schools. Speakers will explore the historical and cultural value of local UNESCO sites and illustrate classroom-ready tools.

Conference highlights

  • Keynote by art historian Jacopo Veneziani;
  • Session "Science and technology of Lombardy's UNESCO sites" led by Sarah Pozzoli and Christian Hill;
  • Workshop "Play the future: learning UNESCO values with Lego bricks" with Fabio Fumagalli (Lego Serious Play);
  • Student-led digital heritage projects presented by local schools;
  • Interactive quiz on UNESCO sites conducted by Maria Bosco.

Selected schedule of free guided visits

The training is paired with a calendar of free visits for teachers, turning UNESCO locations into hands-on learning environments. Key dates include:

  • 23 May 2026 – Castelseprio and Monastery of Torba (Longobard traces and Santa Maria Foris Portas);
  • 24 May 2026 – Isolino Virginia (ancient pile-dwelling site);
  • 30 May 2026 – San Salvatore-Santa Giulia monumental complex, Brescia;
  • 31 May 2026 – Valle Camonica (National Park of Rock Engravings, Massi di Cemmo Archaeological Park, MUPRE in Capo di Ponte);
  • 6 June 2026 – The Last Supper (Cenacolo Vinciano) and Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan;
  • 7 June 2026 – The Chapel Avenue (Viale delle Cappelle) at the Sacro Monte of Varese.

Educational tools and support

Teachers will have access to teaching kits by Fondazione LINKS, podcasts, video interviews and training modules developed with the UNESCO Chair of the Politecnico di Milano (Mantova campus).

How to join

Teachers must register through the Experience Regione Lombardia portal. Participation is free while places last. The visit calendar, booking details and pedagogical materials are also available via the Abbonamento Musei website.

Project aim: to provide teachers with interpretative keys and innovative methods to integrate Lombardy’s UNESCO heritage into school programs and to make heritage sites active educational resources.
