Uemon Ikeda — Intangible Metamorphosis

Where: PROSA_contemporanea, Rome

When: 10 April 2026 – 30 April 2026 (opening event with performance on 10 April, 19:30)

PROSA_contemporanea hosts a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Uemon Ikeda, curated by Alberto Dambruoso. The show places painting alongside a site-specific installation: watercolors on paper are juxtaposed with an environment shaped by a red thread of wool and silk, created in collaboration with artist Ximena Robles.

The installation is conceived as an interactive environment: the red thread redefines the gallery's spatial perception and encourages visitors to engage directly with the work. At the vernissage, a Butoh dance performance by Flavio Arcangeli animates the installation, offering a corporeal interpretation of the exhibition's theme of metamorphosis.

Highlights

  • Environmental installation: aerial red lines trace, separate and connect volumes and pathways inside the space.
  • Watercolors: a series of works that reflect Ikeda’s balance between figuration and abstraction.
  • Performance: the Butoh piece at the opening provides a physical reading of the show’s transformative concept.

Practical information

  • Opening times and admission: check PROSA_contemporanea’s official channels for current visiting hours and access rules.
  • Interaction with the work: parts of the installation are designed for participatory use; follow on-site instructions to preserve the artwork.
  • Accessibility: the venue occupies a converted space; contact the gallery for details on assisted access.

The exhibition offers a clear example of how thread, paint and movement can transform familiar spaces into ephemeral environments, inviting visitors to mentally reconstruct an "intangible metamorphosis".
