Trapani kicks off sailing season with the Professor Antonino Zichichi Memorial

The Lega Navale Italiana — Trapani section will open its spring championship with the Professor Antonino Zichichi Memorial, an event blending sport, culture and scientific memory.

The program includes two race weekends: the first between Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April 2026, the second between 2 and 3 May 2026, with the awards ceremony and a commemorative event scheduled for 3 May 2026.

• Races are open to Crociera Regata, Gran Crociera and Vele Bianche classes, run under international ORC rules.
• Technical gathering for the Optimist class on 11–12 April, bringing more than 150 young helmsmen from across Italy.
• Public display of a bronze rostro recovered from the Egadi seabed, on loan from the Superintendency of the Sea; a prelude to the “Sebastiano Tusa” sailing trophy.

Organizers emphasize the event's dual nature — a sporting competition and a cultural tribute to Zichichi, highlighting Trapani's role as a hub for maritime tradition, youth sailing and the promotion of local heritage.
