Heights, villages and woods: eight guided hikes in the Varesotto area

Fondazione Varese Welcome, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Varese and the Italian Alpine Club, has launched a multisensory programme of eight guided hikes scheduled between May and November. The initiative aims to combine culture, nature and sustainability to promote the area through slow tourism.

• Goal: build a recognisable tourist identity for the Varesotto by connecting local excellences.
• Routes: from the Monte Lema Ring to trails between Sesto Calende and Taino, to autumn itineraries among fortifications and woods and the historical Linea Cadorna sites.
• Format: free hikes with limited places, designed to prioritise quality of experience over mass tourism.
• Strategic context: the project is part of Varese Sport Commission activities, which also promotes air sports, cycling, golf and running as outdoor development levers.

The outings are presented as opportunities to rediscover stone villages, old mule tracks, alpine pastures and chestnut woods, fostering a more conscious and respectful relationship between visitors and the landscape.
