The first national drill specifically focused on securing cultural heritage after an earthquake concluded in Campo Tizzoro, in the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio (Pistoia). The exercise turned the area into an open-air laboratory to test recovery techniques and operational procedures for paintings, sculptures and archival materials.
About 80 experts took part—volunteers, regional staff and operators from the Ministry of Culture—testing a specialist elite module intended to integrate with the regional Civil Protection mobile column. The activity served as the final stage of a training path aimed at creating rapid-response operational capabilities for post-seismic cultural protection.
The Tuscan drill is a forward step in heritage protection: beyond immediate post-quake response, it seeks to consolidate specialist training and shared procedures to preserve the cultural identity of towns and historic sites affected by natural disasters.
