Baldassare Romano Civic Museum becomes part of Sicily's municipal museums network

The Baldassare Romano Civic Museum in Termini Imerese has officially joined the Network of Municipal Museums of Sicily, an initiative promoted by Anci Sicilia that links over 100 municipalities and more than 200 museums across the island. The membership aims to boost the visibility and valorisation of local cultural assets.

  • Location and history: founded in 1873, the museum is housed in a historic complex in the town centre, featuring spaces from different periods, including a 15th-century church and a 15th-century frescoed chapel.
  • Main collections: archaeological finds from ancient Himera (coins, ceramics, everyday objects), a painting collection with works from the 16th–17th centuries, 19th-century sculpture, and natural science collections such as minerals and shell specimens.
  • Notable works: the holdings include a portrait of Giulia Drusilla, a bas-relief attributed to Gagini, an Immaculate by Novelli and a sketch attributed to Bernini.

Joining the network encourages cooperation with other municipal museums in Sicily for exhibitions, educational programmes and tourism promotion, supporting greater access to and conservation of the region's cultural heritage.

Practical information: the museum is located on via Marco Tullio Cicerone in Termini Imerese’s historic centre, close to the Cathedral. It is open on weekdays with variable hours; visitors are advised to confirm opening times before planning their visit.
