Sardinia commits €38M to enhance 15 villages with slow tourism, trails

Regional pact for village tourism: focus on slow tourism and local paths

On 10 April 2026 the Region signed a protocol with 15 certified Sardinian municipalities to strengthen village tourism. Funded by the FSC (Fondo Sviluppo e Coesione), the initiative aims to enhance historic centres and small towns by improving accessibility, hospitality and local gastronomic offerings.

Main goals include supporting slow tourism, developing walking routes and food-and-wine experiences, promoting year-round visits and countering depopulation in inland areas.

The overall allocation is €38 million, divided equally so that each municipality receives approximately €2.5 million. Funds are earmarked for targeted projects such as:

• upgrading mobility and access to historic centres;
• improving local hospitality and small-scale accommodation;
• developing hiking paths and local walking networks;
• promoting local food and wine initiatives and territorial products;
• generating jobs and encouraging new residency in the villages.

This regional programme offers practical opportunities for local administrators, cultural districts and tourism operators to plan integrated actions linking historic heritage, landscapes and gastronomic experiences.
