Anselm Kiefer at Lia Rumma Gallery: solo exhibition in Milan

Autore: Redazione 10/04/2026 12:29

Anselm Kiefer at Galleria Lia Rumma

Dates: 17 April – 24 July 2026
Venue: Galleria Lia Rumma, Via Stilicone 19, Milan

Galleria Lia Rumma hosts a new solo exhibition by Anselm Kiefer, one of the leading figures of contemporary art. The show brings forward a series of works that recover female figures marginalized by official history, giving them renewed presence through dense, material-rich painting.

Themes and works

The exhibition examines the intersection of ancient knowledge, alchemy and artistic practice. Kiefer depicts women who worked as scientists, experimenters and artists across different eras, transforming painting with materials such as lead, copper, gold leaf, ash and botanical elements. Alchemical processes like oxidation and electrolysis are used to alter surfaces and color.

  • Featured figures: Bianca of Navarre, Sophie Brahe, Isabella Cortese, Ōtagaki Rengetsu.
  • Key works: large-scale figurative canvases combining portraits and alchemical iconography; a major canvas uniting Calliope and Melpomene.
  • Curatorial dialogue: the Lia Rumma presentation complements a related installation at Palazzo Reale, expanding the narrative about women and ancient knowledge.
