Six million euros to regenerate Rome's museums and archaeological

Autore: Redazione 11/05/2026 17:17

Funding for Rome's museums and archaeological sites: a plan of around €6 million

The municipal council has authorized participation in a public call by the Lazio Region to request funding aimed at enhancing the city's cultural heritage. The total requested amount is approximately €6 million, with the municipality covering 20% of the expenses.

Main interventions

  • Museum of Roman Civilization: request for €1.2 million to carry out energy efficiency measures (installation of photovoltaic panels on roofs) and to restore, conserve and climatize basement level -1 spaces to open the library and archive to the public.
  • Palazzo Braschi: about €1 million for opening the third floor to visitors, restoring eight rooms currently in poor condition and recovering decorative elements.
  • Taberna delle Tre Pile (Via del Teatro Marcello): €1 million requested to secure the hypogeum, and recover and restore fragments of painted plaster on the walls of the two rooms.
  • Sepolcreto on Via Ostiense: planned funding of €1.3 million for conservation of decorative apparatus (stuccoes, frescoes, mosaics) and creation of a new visitor route with exhibits to enable public access.
  • San Valentino archaeological area (Viale Pilsudski): €1.5 million for improving accessibility, securing and restoring existing structures.

Expected outcomes

The projects combine conservation with improvements in usability and sustainability: from energy upgrades to accessibility works and new exhibition routes to open additional spaces to visitors. Coordinated action between the Superintendent's office and the municipality aims to systematically enhance Rome's archaeological and museum heritage.
