Opening of the "Giovanni Longo" International Chess Museum in Marostica

On 16 May 2026 Marostica will inaugurate Italy's first museum fully devoted to chess. Located in the rooms of the Castello Inferiore, the museum showcases historic chess sets, artworks and archival materials related to the game.

• Opening date: 16 May 2026.
• Venue: Castello Inferiore, Marostica.
• Collections: historic boards and sets, artistic works and items from private collections.
• Themed areas: a section on war and memory and a dedicated "Donors' Space" for private contributions.
• Funding: total investment of €668,000, financed roughly one third by the Municipality and the remainder through PNRR funds.

The museum aims to conserve the history of chess and to engage both enthusiasts and new audiences, transmitting the cultural value of the game to future generations.
