On Friday 17 April 2026 at 18:30, Sant'Arpino will host a cultural and religious event dedicated to the Eighth Centenary of St. Francis of Assisi. The meeting takes place in the seventeenth-century Church of Sant'Elpidio Vescovo, located in Piazza Ten. Giuseppe Macrì.
The event features the presentation of The Hidden Heart of the Canticle. From Sister Death to Brother Sun, St. Francis and the Verses of the Bishopric (Mondadori) by Domenico Sorrentino, former Bishop of Assisi. The book offers an in-depth reading of the Canticle of the Creatures, highlighting its theological, spiritual and historical dimensions.
This appointment is aimed at those who want to go beyond common readings of the Canticle as merely an ecological hymn. The book proposes a hermeneutic approach that places emphasis on the closing stanzas—on forgiveness, suffering and sister death—revealing a deeper spiritual core. The meeting also underlines the collaboration between civil and ecclesial institutions at the local level.
