Towards the end of the 11th century, the castle came into the possession of the Sanseverino family and remained under their control, despite various vicissitudes, until 1552. After that date, the castle passed through different hands, each leaving its mark and adapting it to the needs of the time, with modifications such as the reduction of towers, the addition of windows, and interior decorations.

In the 1960s, the castle was purchased by historian Ruggero Moscati (1908–1981), who understood its value as a symbol of Cilento. During his management, the castle became a meeting place for scholars and a venue for conferences. However, after his death, his heirs abandoned the castle, which suffered acts of vandalism that led to its decline until recent times.

In 2018, the castle was purchased by Giuseppina and Stefano Sgueglia, already owners of the Castle of Limatola, a small medieval village located about 50 km from Benevento. They transformed the ancient defensive residence into a prestigious event venue and intend to do the same with the Rocca Cilento castle, planning to host conferences, congresses, private parties, and weddings. However, the Sgueglias have not forgotten the work of Prof. Moscati and intend to dedicate an area of the castle to a cultural center in his memory.

The old manor will be reborn: transformed into an elegant venue that will enhance its authenticity linked to the Cilento territory. The Castle of Rocca Cilento will become a charming residence located halfway between the Archaeological Park of Paestum and that of Velia, with a panoramic view of the sea and the Cilento Coast, which extends to the Amalfi Coast, visible from the other side of the Gulf of Salerno.
