Ricetto di Candelo: the village among vineyards and breathtaking views

Autore: Redazione 02/08/2025 18:20

Ricetto di Candelo is a small medieval gem in the heart of the Biella area. Born between the 13th and 14th centuries, it has withstood the test of time thanks to the care of the inhabitants of Candelo, the City, and important philanthropic institutions. Always open and full of life, it bears witness to the extraordinary historical heritage of the territory. The Ricetto rises among vineyards and cultivated fields that lead the gaze toward the first pre-Alpine hills.

In this almost enchanted place, silence flows through the streets, crossing the ancient walls of the houses and enveloping the Ricetto, making it an ideal destination for deep reflection and for learning to enjoy the tranquility of nature.

What to see in Ricetto di Candelo

Ricetto di Candelo appears as a compact cluster of about 200 buildings framed by an ancient defensive wall with corner towers and a controlled access system.

Walking through the evocative alleys of the Ricetto, one can admire historic cellars still in use, small artisan workshops at work, and many cultural spaces dedicated to exhibitions and interactive workshops.

The main points of interest are located near the large entrance gate, surmounted by a tall tower, through which one enters the village. From here, just a few steps lead to the main street. This street offers glimpses of medieval storage cells and allows visitors to admire the quiet dynamism of a historic yet truly living place. Also worth seeing is the Torre del Vino (Wine Tower), home to food and wine events and tastings of unique flavors.

An interesting curiosity about the village is its urban structure, devoid of noble palaces and entirely dedicated to functionality—a historic example of rural defensive architecture.

Traditions and events in the Ricetto

Candelo is a very active village that makes its history a great cultural resource. Throughout the year, the Ricetto comes alive with many events that enhance local traditions and history. The most famous event is Candelo in Fiore, a biennial festival that transforms the lively village into a triumph of colors with floral installations in every corner.

In December, the Ricetto di Natale is celebrated, welcoming visitors with lights and Christmas-themed installations, along with the well-known Christmas markets.

There is no shortage of festivals and fairs, including musical ones. The Ricetto also hosts historical reenactments and tastings that span generations.

Around Ricetto di Candelo

The territory of Candelo offers many nature trails. Here lies the Baraggia Nature Reserve, nicknamed the “Piedmontese savannah,” a magical place that combines paths through dense forests with open horizons offering unprecedented views.

Just a few kilometers away is Biella, with its museums, its own historic village of Piazzo, and the Sanctuary of Oropa.

Packing your bags as soon as possible is a must to discover the magic that surrounds Ricetto di Candelo, immersing yourself in a place suspended in time yet vibrant and dynamic.
